Have you checked the hoses in the engine for any air leaks or loose fittings, or tried to isolate it when the engine is at high RPM’s Is it a high-pitched whistle like a screech or a low-pitched whistle more like a flutaphone. 🙂 Has anything been done to the engine or wheels lately? New or worn tires perhaps? Is the engine losing coolant? Have you checked the radiator cap?
Does your engine have any service codes or check engine light? Is it coming from your wheels on one side or the other? You don’t hear it at all when the engine is running and you’re at a stop or low speed? Is it a whistle sound or a squeak?
Being really specific helps diagnose noises.
SparksJune 1, 2013 at 1:00 am #526515Its coming the front left tire, it sounds like a whistle like ererererererer, i can barely hear it on highway, but in the city i can hear it clearly, no engine light, and no leakings, i dont hear it everytime i drive though ,like the other day it sounded then the next driving it was gone then it came back, im confused, i think theres something with the ball joint but not sure, pplease help
June 1, 2013 at 1:17 am #526535Do you notice any steering wheel vibration or shakes rattles or rolls from the front end? Does it get worse on braking ? Sounds more like a wheel bearing not ball joints. Does it get better or worse on one particular type of road surface, like rough roads vs. smooth? When you’re parked and turn the steering wheel all the way to one side or the other, do you hear it?
BTW, did you check your engine’s belts for proper tension? Any belts squealing from slippage? Could also be a power steering pump squeal. Check that for proper fluid level and generally just listen to the engine as well, especially on the left side of the engine compartment.
Gotta go earn a living. I’m sure someone else will jump in here but I’ll check with you or tomorrow if you like.
Sparks.June 1, 2013 at 2:53 am #526586You may have a tire problem. Try rotating the tires
to see if the problem changes.June 1, 2013 at 11:37 pm #526765I’d start by jacking up the front end, putting stands under it of course, and following the steps in Eric’s “How to Find a bad wheel bearing” (as College Man suggested.) But I’d do that before swapping any wheels. Essentially, all you need to do is spin the wheel and listen.
Piece-of-cake. Let us know what you find.
SparksJune 1, 2013 at 11:54 pm #526767Man any ideas are much appreciated, wanna do it myself for enjoyment, thanks guys. Ill give you a feedback when i have some free time

June 2, 2013 at 4:44 am #526814Check the brakes on the noisy wheel. Could be the brake pad wear sensors contacting the brake rotor telling you it is time to replace the brake pads, I say this because the noise goes away when you turn the wheels, wear sensors will do that. I also say it because you describe the noise as high pitched, usually a wheel bearing is a lower pitched drummng type of noise-but not ALWAYS!
June 2, 2013 at 5:16 am #526825Good idea. When you have the front end raised and spin the wheel(s) if you hear grating, grinding, squeaking or squealing, etc., pull the tire and turn the wheel itself. Any of those sounds, more often metal on metal would suggest you check your low pad indicator, the pads themselves, the calipers and the rotors for wear. ETCG has some excellent videos, and while these apply to Honda, the principles likely apply to Nissan.
or this one:
and this one on front disc brakes
June 2, 2013 at 7:44 am #526876How is the brake pedal? How far down do you have to step on the brake for it to respond compared to how it normally is? Good indication on needing brakes it the pedal will need to be pushed down more to the stop. It will also make brake fluid go down. Did you check your brake fluid?
June 4, 2013 at 5:26 am #527438No no its not the brake pads or anything like that, i know the signs of a worn brake pad, and it doesnt sound when i apply the brake, it does when im driving and its not consistent, sometimes its gone for no reason, but sometime it sounds like a whistle when im driving but gone on turn, thank you all, ill leave a feedback after im done checking for the wheel bearing like spark said
June 6, 2013 at 6:58 am #527970Ah its gone somehow, it is just weird
June 6, 2013 at 7:05 am #527974This is good! Sounds that go away are like the beginning of a Tsunami wave-first all the water disappears-then whoosh! It all comes back at once. 🙂
When the sound returns-keep turning up the radio until the sound gets louder than the radio can go and you will have NO problem identifying the failed component! I could not resist some sarcastic humor. I hope the noise never returns and that all remains well. Please keep us posted! -
