Please help! Every time I start my car one of the belts starts to whistle. I noticed my battery voltage doesn’t even reach 12 when I start my car. The belt only whistles when the voltage is low and after 10 minutes or so the voltage would go up and the whistle will go away. Every time I turn something electrical on the voltage goes down and the whistle starts. What do I do?

        Any codes?

Sounds like maybe a load problem in the alternator. I would fully charge the battery, then remove the serpentine belt and see if the noise disappears (don’t run too long).

I change the alternator 2 months ago. This just happened when it started getting cold. Could it be the terminals?

Does this car have one belt or more? While running, and when the noise happen, carefully take a bar of soap and hold it to the inside of the belt to see if the noise goes away…. Usually a noisy belt is described a squeal. would that be more accurate?

Yes its a squeal. It has multiple belts.

If you can safely reach in with a bar of soap, i would try that…. I think that the parts store may sell a spray can of stuff the will stop the squeal…

                  And if that doesn’t work?

if that doesn’t stop it on the spot it could be a belt not tight enough…. if you push on the belt in the middle of a span, it should not give in much… 1/4 inch at the most.. if all belts are tight… try to take them off one at a time…see which ones are not making the noise… take the non essential ones first like ac or power steering ect..
