Had a timing belt replaced in my 2000 Accord LX 4 cyl at about 100k miles. Short time after I noticed the engine making a “typewriter” clicking noise when the car was cold. I figured all the valves could not have gone out of adjustment at the same time but I checked them anyway and they were well within tolerance. Didn’t have to adjust one. My mechanic confirmed to me Honda valves rarely need adjusting unless one is really hard on the engine, which I am not.
Now I still get this “typewriter” clicking noise until the car heats up and then it goes away. The Mechanic said it was piston slap and we left it at that. My question is what in the timing belt replacement procedure could have caused this to happen? Has anyone experienced this after replacing a timing belt?
Thanks.
PS It’s not the oil or valves.
