So on a previous topic about my 2000 Ford Expedition 4.6L Romeo Engine.
I was doing a passenger side Cylinder head replacement along with a Timing service. Well it has yet to start but I had a mechanic come look at it and he mentioned the following..
“Since you had the engine torn apart for a long time, the pistons loose pressure and will need to be repressurized.”

The Cylinder Head job took a period of about 2 weeks that the truck just sat there with the pistons exposed but not debris got inside. I lubricated cylinder walls before i reassembled and I also dropped in oil as i went to crank..
Is there any truth to what this mechanic told me???

Last night I squirted 4 pump of oil into the cylinders from the hand pump and it was the best attempt of starting yet… It looking promising

That was the first thing I thought. Then I thought WTF? The engine wasn’t even really apart.

Mechanics need to stick to brakes and ball joints and leave everything else to Technicians.

Wow, unless he is refering to loss of compression due to lack of material on piston rings then he is full of BS.

Ring material does not magically disappear from sitting around. If the engine was torn apart then the rings were not loosing material.

It is POSSIBLE, that after a top end rebuild, the older bottom end can’t handle increase in compression(especially if the head was resurfaced and a thicker headgasket was not used). It is also possible the timing is off.
