picking the right oil

      might sound dumb but how should i pick my oil should i go by whats in the manual that came with the car or pick any oil can someone give some tips also what kind of oil will be good for my 96 honda civic dx

        Go by what the manual states for the correct weight and viscosity.
        Then pick a brand of your choice.

          Put in what the manufacturer states should be put in. Usually written on the oil cap itself. They spend a lot of time, money, and effort figuring out the correct viscosity oil for your engine. You should head their recommendations for best results. Failure to do so could result in engine damage or failure.

            the manual said 5w30 and is recommended and 10w30 for the long years so i went for 10w30
