I’m a mechanic by trade but I tend not to work on diesels that much.

As a favor to a friend of a friend I said I would look at his van. It’s a Peugeot boxer and it is running really rough. It starts one the key fine, but it smokes really bad. It’s a whitey blue smoke and it being a diesel im sat there like HUH. I assumed it was a water issue hence the white smoke, and I know that diesel has some issue with water in the fuel etc? so I suggested to change the fuel filter and see how much it improves rather then spending big money on stuff it might not be.

When running, I removed one injector connector at a time to see which one wasn’t firing and number 3 made no difference to it’s running rough whereas the other 3 made it so much worse.

I plugged my OBD scanner and it came up with all 4 injector circuits open (obviously as i unplugged them all in turn).

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

You might also check the compression on the cylinder that didn’t have an RPM drop. A mechanical issue can also cause problems like that.

Good luck and keep us posted.
