Not sure about others, but 99% of “frozen” nuts and bolts don’t seem to be penetrated at all by anything. BUT heat!

Any of these oil is good for winding the exposed threads through a nut, but as for penetration, there all about the same for me, i.e., next to useless.

I usually have good luck with pbblasters. the secret is to give it time to work. depending on the severity of the problem it could need several coatings. sometimes though nothing seems to work but brute force.

I have to agree with WDHewson. If you can get a torch on a bolt or nut, It’s the quicket and best way to loosen a frozen fastener. Just be safe and remember you don’t need a roaring flame for most of the jobs. The acetylene torch can be your best friend, or your worst enemy depending on how you treat it.

Transmission fluid and Acetone I hear is pretty good. I’ve never tried it myself though.

I consistently keep hearing this too. I might have to try it out one day.

Another good way to get a frozen bolt or nut out is to use one of those Bernzomatic Oxygen Mapp kits, get the bolt nice and hot and then smear a candle over it. The liquid wax will get sucked into the bolt like soldering flux and works pretty well as a lubricant. Sometimes, you have to apply the wax a few times to get the job done. I’ve had better results using ski wax, but that gets a bit expensive, so I usually just stick with an emergency candle. The heat does 90% of the work and the wax is good for the other 10%.

ATF and acetone does work well, I keep some mixed up in an old-school oil can. You’ve just got to shake it up before you use it, the acetone and ATF seem to separate. I mix it in a 1:1 ratio. It’s certainly cheap anyway.

It might be in my head, but I actually think it does work a bit better than PB Blaster or Liquid Wrench. The problem with it is that it’s not as easy to spray all over tight spots, but I suppose putting it into a spray bottle would solve that.

                        I just use PB blaster.
