Parking Sensors

My Mother’s 2009 Lincoln Navigator has always sounded like an alien spaceship. It has produced some of the oddest noises. Recently the front parking sensors have been going off anytime the brake pedal is pressed. If it’s timed right, as in when the notification is on the dash display, the Reset button can be hit and it will turn the sensor off all together, but as soon as you turn the car off and back on, it defaults back to being On.

I’ve looked at the sensors and there is no visible damage, the vehicle hasn’t bumped into anything. And I cleaned them all off.

Is there some sort of a relay switch for these sensors where each sensor is plugged in? How are these things wired? What is the best way to go about finding out the source of the issue when it’s not throwing any codes?

      Thanks!!

If its throwing a warning it has a code. Its not one you can access with a generic scan tool that only reads global OBD engine codes. You need an IDS or an aftermarket high-end one to track it down. You would also need a factory service manual or an info service like Alldata to find the info about how to test it. Unfortunately its not a DIY-friendly thing and you may want to let a well-equipped shop take this one.

Totally agree. Take it to the pros.
