I have a ’99 VW Passat w/1.8 turbo engine, automatic: I am replacing the rear brakes including the rotor and calipers. On the new caliper the bracket for the parking brake appears to be in the wrong position. There is no way possible to pull the brake cable long enough to connect to the brake bracket. I no longer have the old calipers to make a comparison, my Haynes manual and my memory of the old calipers indicate the parking brake bracket needs truned back (to the left) about 1 to 1-1/2 inches.
My question: Can I loosen the bolt holding the parking brake bracket to the caliper so I can reposition the brake braket without screwing up the closed piston in the caliper?

move the left-side caliper to the right, and move the right-side caliper to the left. 🙂
