      Hey guys,

I had a quick question see if you all can answer this really fast as depending on possible causes I might just have to scrap this car…
I was driving down the road and had an issue that forced me to the side of the road. The car started leaking oil pretty bad and got the light to come on. I put it in neutral to get the rpm’s low and moved to the side. The light turned off so before making a complete stop, I put it back into drive to try and drive off to a safer spot. Strange thing is, it did not go forward anymore. The car goes into park and it goes into reverse just fine but it will not work in drive at all not even on the manual gears or in the sport shift mode. This is a 99 Acura TL. Can you guys think of what might be causing this? I have filled the engine with oil and I have checked the levels of the transmission and it has enough fluid in there. It is new fluid as well so I do not think that this is the issue. Thank you guys in advance.

      Chris

Update: I decided I was going to try and test drive it to see what would happen. I started it and got drive to engage. I was going to take it up the road and then back home just a small drive to see what would happen. It got into gear fine but would be struggling to shift to second and third. When I came to a stop, it would not go into gear at all. I then tried reverse and it did not work either. I noticed a whining noise when I tried to get it to go into gear. I finally got it to go to reverse and I parked it on the side of the road as it wont work in any gear anymore most of the time. What could cause this? Is it a bad transmission? I never had issues with it after I changed the fluid and would even shift like a dream. Shifts would be barely felt. I do not understand why this would happen out of the blue. No slipping issues, no hard shifting. I even floored it a few times to see what would happen and it always seemed to work just fine through all rpms. There are no codes on the car at all. I did have one that always comes back and it is p0420. It is an emissions problems so I did not think it was related. Thanks again guys

What was the issue that forced you off the road? Did you run over something that damaged something on the underside? Regardless, the symptoms it is showing is not a good sign…

It was the oil light that came on. I was low on engine oil but I did not think it would make a difference. One thing I noticed as I managed to get it into gear enough to get it home is that sometimes when I try and go into drive or reverse, it will make a grinding noise like the one you would hear on a manual car when you try and go into gear without pressing the clutch down. It makes me think that maybe a solenoid is not working properly. One that would control the clutch inside the gears possibly? I am not sure
