I’m trying to determine which viscosity PAG oil I need for the above compressor in a 2004 Saturn Vue with 3.5L. I believe it’s PAG 46, but not sure. Saturn P/N given in the service manual is 22695048. Any help would be greatly appreciated!

Most times compressors come with all the oil they need. Unless otherwise specified in the literature that came with the compressor, I would not add any oil to the system. As for the type of oil, there WILL be literature somewhere in the packaging that indicates the type of lubricant to use.

Good luck and keep us posted.

Sorry to necro this old post but it has came up twice in recent history when looking for pag oil info.

I need to clarify that a/c compressors almost NEVER come with the correct oil in them (i say ‘almost’ cause there’s always an exception) . They come with shipping oil to prevent the insides from rusting.

When you get a new compressor you should dump whatever oil is in it out and dispose of it properly. Then install the correct oil with the amount based on manufacture’s specification. (in a case where there is no specification you should dump the oil out of the old compressor into a graduated cylinder and see how much was in it.)
