Had been getting p2017 and later p2004 codes in my Jeep Patriot. After testing the wiring using the factory service manual as a guide. Here’s what I came up with.
      What do you think?

Part One: Checking the movement of the intake manifold runner control module.

Part Two: The sound it makes when it appears to be jammed.

Thanks for the videos! I’m not sure if the throttle needs to be open for the mechanical linkage to be free in the intake, you should probably consult with the FSM to find out if that’s the case. If however you know that the motor can move as it should then perhaps there is a mechanical problem inside the intake. Unfortunately you would need to remove the intake to inspect and repair this fault. Keep us posted.

Unfortunately since the Jeep is fly by wire, there’s no actual linkage just a motor. I suppose I could try to start it and see what happens.

This is the intake manifold. The IMRC motor is on the side. You can see the flaps in the ports, and the throttle is mounted on that hook shaped part that goes down under everything.

In that case you may just have to remove the intake and see if there is any physical damage to the plates or some restriction causing it not to move correctly.

Ok something new… So I unplugged the motor because I wasn’t going to be able to get it fixed right away and didn’t want it binding and burning up.

A day later I got p0113 IAT circuit high. I checked the IAT and it was plugged in securely AND I was able to pull up the IAT temperature with by OBDII application.

2 days ago I plugged everything back in and drove for a but to see if the IAT code would go away. It didn’t but the check engine light did. So now I still show p02004 and p0113 but no CEL is lit. I did a code clear and they still show as active codes but nothing is in pending status. I’ve tried clearing the codes with engine on, engine off but nothing works.

The IAT itself is just a blue thermistor mounted in a 2 pin plug that sits in the air snorkel after the air filter. My jeep doesn’t seem to have a MAF.

So the puzzling part to me is 2 active codes but no check engine light. The light has not burned out because I can put the key in the ignition without starting and the lights all light in the dash as normal.

I think there may be 2 possibilities here. The first is that you still have a hard fault somewhere perhaps within the wiring or something. The second is that those codes cannot be reset with the scanner you have. I have run into at times on some vehicles with certain codes that they cannot be reset with a regular scanner. I think they do this so you can’t just turn off the CEL to pass emissions just before the test. It may require a factory scanner to turn them off. I do know that on some vehicles if the condition that tripped the code is not reset within 50 starts of the vehicle that often this will clear the code from memory.

In short I’m not sure why you can’t clear those codes but those are some theories as to why.
