P1408 code

      My customer has a continues engine light on, considering the code i have tried everything i can think of, i have changed the dpfe sensor,egr solinoid, egr valve and the tube, and it still has no vacuum at egr but runs good at idle and does not drive slugish. wtf could it be.

      My bad its a 97 ford f150 4.6

          maybe evap hoses going from intake to canister…Sounds like a broken loose hose somewhere,….But thats just a guess. maybe a smoke test will help.

              What diagnostic steps did you use before you changed all those parts? Did you test each part?

              The best way of diagnosing this code is using a vacuum pump on the EGR valve and seeing if the EGR is functioning. The diaphragm should move when you apply vacuum. If it does, then move over to the DPFE, again apply vacuum to the sensor and check the voltage readings with a DVOM.

              If all that checks out well, remove the throttle body and clean the EGR passages in the intake manifold. The P1408 is very similar to the P0401 code.

                  If it’s a Ford, first things first, are there any holes in the hood that line up with the spark plug tubes?

                    I don’t really think this is the spot to trash brands jason. Ford is the one American car maker not owned by the government (us) or Fiat.

                    exodus: I’m curious. The truck isn’t running poorly, just throwing a code? Or…? It has no vacuum to the EGR, I’m guessing you checked the vacuum line?

                      Yeah that might be funny on your fav local forum to make comments like that jason but here things should be a bit more serious. There are people that need real help. I applaud techs for coming on and asking for help on hard to fix issues. Yeah they are getting paid for it and we aren’t but it’s all about helping people keep their vehicles on the road no matter what form that help comes in.

                      Jokes are all fine and good but at least contribute a suggestion before making a joke otherwise you’re just wasting everyone’s time.

                      No vacuum? Try the vacuum pump (if the car has one).

                        I’m not familiar with that particular system but I believe you can be reasonably sure that the parts you replaced are not at fault. By the sound of it your not getting a vacuum signal to the EGR if that is the case the I would narrow my search to the controls for the vacuum signal, service manuals are great for giving this kind of information. Keep us posted.
