P1406 Code on a 97 Olds Bravada

My 97 Olds Bravda is giving me a P1406 code.
My Chilton manual says “EGR position sensor performance”.
I replaced the EGR valve, but the code returns after earasing codes with my Actron Scan Tool.
What should I check or replace next?

check the egr passage ways, make sure they are not clogged with carbon build up.

Thanks for the info. It helped me fix the problem.
My new EGR valve is faulty. (Internal electrical problem)
I took the old EGR and cleaned it with Brake-Kleen, a pick, and a Dremel Wire wheel.
The old EGR passes all the tests found at “EasyDiagnostics.com”
I Installed it, cleared old code (P1406). Test drove it. NO PROBLEMS!!
YEA!!! After 1 1/2 years with the Check Engine Light ON. I finally got it to go OFF!!

Thank you for telling me about this web-site. It is EXCELLENT!!
It walked me through several diagnostic tests, and I discovered my Newer EGR Valve
was actually faulty. It failed one of the electrical tests.
I cleaned my OLD EGR valve. The Pintle was sticking due to carbon build-up.
After a good cleaning, I re-installed the old one. Cleared the code. NO MORE Check Engine Light!!
