Hello all heer is a problem im having
1999 pontiac grand prix GT 3800cc 178,000 miles
Engine Light on intermittently, with P1362 and P1361 codes, both relate to the Ignition control module. Normally the engine will hiccup briefly and the engine light will come on about a minute later. I have not had any driveability issues and I assume the hiccup is when the PCM takes over ignition timing.
I followed the GM service manual and tested for a short using a test light. With the light grouded I probed all of the pins at the ICM wiring harness and the light never came on. I believe this rules out a short.
The chek engine light will also normally clear itself from the lamp (not the PCM) after 3 trips.
With this information I suspect that the ICM is just failing intermitently. Other items of note may include that I have seen a little bit worse gas milage but my fuel trip levels are good.
Could someone please let me know if i should try a new ICM, and if i tested for a short correctly with my test lights.
Thanks
