During a drive to work, the RPM’s began to keep raising up while speed was staying the same (40Mph). At the time it hit 5,000 RPM my check engine light began to illuminate then it shifted. I pulled the codes and it gave me a P0715 input turbine speed sensor circuit malfunction. This transmission has slipped before, change the fluid once and it was quite brown looking but no metal, after that it stopped slipping. Could it be my transmission going out (Read somewhere that P0715’s can be a tranny going out), or should i change the fluid again being some of that old fluid is still in there, or just a sensor?

EDIT: Forgot to mention that its 301,700 miles, on I believe the original tranny and rebuilt engine. Engine is a 2.2L 4cyl F22B2.

I would be looking at replacing the INPUT speed sensor before anything else. You might consider having a professional trans tech advise you. They don’t usually charge for an opinion.

I drove it today but shifted through the gears manually (Started from 1 and worked my way up to D4), drove fine tho it did feel sorda rough (jerked me a little forward) but absolutly no slipping, no revving up 1 more rpm then shift which it does alot cold between 2-3 and 3-4. Could this sensor being bad cause weird shifting problems?

Also where is this sensor located, im assuming its not the same thing as the VSS.

Today it got a little worse, now it seems like at times it once it hits 4th, it will sometimes in say 20-30 seconds start acting up and downshift back into 3rd causing my car to rev up to 5000-6000RPMS (going 45) and after it does this the only thing i can do is just drop my speed down to 40 or less as if I lost 4th gear.

I’ll try to get monitoring information to show the jumps, but in the meantime ill attempt to just assume its that sensor and just replace it. But I dont know where its located.

If the link that college man supplied isn’t enough info you can have a look at this one….http://www.justanswer.com/honda/1jlmc-located-input-turbine-speed-sensor-honda.html

You will need a PDF reader such as adobe or foxit reader to view it however.

Make sure the fluid is full with the engine OFF before you do anything else.

Keep us posted on this but I would wager that your transmission is going out. I’ve seen that code before and that coupled with the symptoms you have could mean that the transmission has an internal fault. Keep at your diagnosis based on those links but be prepared to replace the trans if it comes to that.

Yeah, I have a deep feeling its gonna end up being a bad transmission. I wont have any way to fix it till December/January anyway so gonna try to as long as i can prolong this one before it finally bites the dust, just hope it dont leave me stranded!

This weekend im going to flush (refill it 2 more times as i already changed it once) and pray it dont make things worse. I didnt see any adnormal amount of metal in the fluid, and it did improve for a short while when i did change it. Long as it can last 2 more months!!!

EDIT: Caught it!!! It did it and i got it recorded…

I wouldn’t waste your money on fluid. I don’t think a fluid change will help you at all. It also looks like you need an alignment based on your steering wheel position. Perhaps take care of that at the same time as the transmission. Good luck and keep us posted.

Too late lol. It did help a slight bit but its still slip central when warmed up just not as bad. Im thinking either 3rd or 4th is out, just gonna get a low mileage trans to replace this one as 1700-2000 at once for a rebuilt is a bit out of my league, and being its 301,000 miles dont see it being very cost effective. Does anyone know the going prices for used or remanned ones?

This is a good place to find used parts.

Thanks, Well today marks the day I can no longer drive this thing. First it started out with 4th gear completely failing once warmed up. Now Today 3rd felt like no longer engaging so only Reverse, 1 and 2nd is operational. Mind you I never drove this thing on the highway only city roads and not very far from home (5 miles).

I’ll let you all know how everything goes after I just replace this darn thing!!

Good News! Got the trans replaced with a used one, now it shifts perfectly. And it didn’t cost me an arm and a leg and it least has a 3-month warranty on it.

Also found out one of my mounts catastrophically failed. Got it replaced and now it doesn’t shake when the car is at a complete stop.

So 700$ in and now my car is good as it was when I first got it!
