I don’t know your states emission laws. but in my state if you have a check engine light on you will not pass.C8-)

If you still have your old converter you can try washing it out in a bucket of soapy water. Dish soap works fine. Soak it for a while and rinse it out. Hang it up to drain and dry. This takes a little while because of the small passages. Do you have an exhaust leak?

I’m guessing this vehicle is a Honda. I can’t advise you on the California cat. What I can tell you the code P0420 that you
are experiencing is caused from the high flow cat that you installed. whats happening is the non restrictive flow is causing
your 02 sensor to not sense flow. the computer now thinks something is wrong. hence the P0420 C8-)

Is this the same car where you replaced your whole exhaust system?

Yes I just replaced the catalytic converter. Magnaflow says I put the wrong one on. They say I should have put a california model on it.

In order to pass emissions, you will need to install the correct converter and hope the high flow one will work but you would be best off with an OEM unit.

try e-bay. Maybe you can find a good used low milage cat.

I would look into a California emissions spec’d aftermarket cat then, but not a high flow one. Hondas don’t need magnaflow exhausts in my opinion.

Do you know of any good brands? I looked it up and all I got were magnaflow, walker and eastern.

Actually post 96 I believe Honda’s were 50 state cars meaning they didn’t have different emissions for California. That said Honda’s really don’t like anything but a Honda cat so anything in the aftermarket really wont’ do you any good. You might try this place for a less expensive cat.

They sent me to acura website just like them. They are still $775. I am just a disabled vet I can’t afford that. I’ll have to weigh my options.

First thank you for your service, you might consider checking with salvage yards but I don’t know if they can sell catalytic converters or not they may not be able to because of certain laws governing them, it’s worth a phone call though.
