      Hey all,

My 2003 Nissan Altima S.E 3.5 is a bit sick. First a p0328 (no CEL) popped up about a week ago and found that a mouse ate the wire harness for the knock sensor. I have one on order should be in soon. This morning started the car with a bit of an extended crank which has been normal since the knock sensor is out of service. Found CEL on, got to work plugged my OBD2 reader showed p0306 misfire cylinder 6. My question is could that be related to the knock sensor bing out of service?. This is the first time that a CEL has been present.

I cleared the code for p0306, but will have to wait till lunch to see if it returns.

Well this is becoming scary. Fixed the knock sensor. After swapping cp #4 and #6 around, p0306 came back. I could hear the front three fuel injectors clicking away. Installed a new NGK plug, old one had a tiny bit of oil around the plug threads but electrode looked normal. I have to take the car into a shop for a compression test and scope to check out the camshaft sensors and crank shaft sensor, know to cause problems with Nissan altima. I hope it’s not bad news…

Can anyone interpret this from my code reader?.

Here’s the rest of the code, for some reason I could not post 2 attachments

          LIFT B1 -10.16
          STFT B2 0.00
          LIFT B2 -8.59
          eng RPM 1187
          Veh speed 0

Both code readings from cold start CEL on

Those readings are somewhat useless because the engine was cold. I’ve actually seen more fuel injector problems on Nissans that cause misfires. Also don’t rule out a vacuum leak issue, here’s a video that might help with that.

I thought it might be my remote start because the wire for it is connected to Cylinder #6 fuel injector. I removed the wire, but that didn’t solve the problem. Hard start returned and p0306. How do I check the injector?, I do hear it clicking.

The power balance test usually shows the injector. Have you tried looking for vacuum leaks?

I can hear the injectors ticking away. I’ve not tried looking for vacuum leaks. I just find it strange that during my knock sensor harness issue the #6 misfire happens

I’m not saying they can’t be related but for now I would focus on the misfire and then look to the knock sensor issue.

I have a injector on order. Reading through several Nissan sites I belong to suggest replacing Nissan’s known trouble some injectors as you have also mentioned. I think this is a good gamble if I was to be throwing money at buying parts. I could have swapped out injectors as I did with cp’s, but its kind of a pain my Altima. I’ll report back when I’m finished.

I just got burned on one the other week and replaced the injector and it turned out to be a leaking intake gasket. FYI.

That was quite the timing on that video, watched it this morning. I tried the water spay and couldn’t find a leak around the gasket. That will be a very helpful video for sure. Thanks Eric!.

Well good news so far, car does feel much better with the new fuel injector and no CEL. Tomorrow I’ll go for a long drive just to be sure. Thanks all for your help and suggestions!.

Turns out the p0306 was caused by the faulty fuel injector. Mechanically I could hear it ticking away, but I guess electronically it wasn’t working. Hopefully the other five injectors make it through the winter… Thanks all!.:woohoo:
