So I have a 03 Saturn vue v6 awd . It started skipping and idling rough a few weeks back. As my past experience it seemed like a fuel filter. So I changed that and since then it has been going ok (knock on wood). I have only driven it about 100miles or so. Today when I was testing it it thru 2 more codes at me which were th p0171 and p0174 system too lean on both banks . It also has a high idle when in park or neutral after it warms up. And also before I changed the filter I was getting random cylinder misfire and cylinder 3 misfire codes. Since filter have not popped up again.( knock on wood again) I have freeze fram data for the 171 code . My scan tool gave me some suggestions of what it could be. Intake leak after maf, maf sensor, restriction in fuel system(checked this it has 60psi) , spark plugs and O2 sensors. If someone has had same issues please help. Don’t know we’re to start. Would have done wires and plugs but this motor is a big pain to get to plugs have to remove intake plenum and a lot of other stuff. Thank you

I would be looking for an intake manifold leak especially with a cold engine.

Thanks for quick reply. I forgot to mention that one time it happened we let it sit for about 3 days and then after that it went fine for 2 days and started acting up again. It’s been fine for a few days now just don’t wanna send my wife and kids out in it and have it start again.. I’m hoping the filter took care of misfire now just gotta get the lean situation figured out. I will check for leaks tomarow. Thanks again

Rough idle, along with lean codes, would typically indicate a vacuum leak.
Try spraying carb cleaner around inside the engine bay. Spraying directly on and around all vacuum hoses, intake, and brake booster. As well as any other vacuum operated components, such as the fuel pressure regulator. If you’re not sure, just do a small area, and work your way around the whole top of the motor.
Do not spray carb cleaner on the hot exhaust manifold. You can do this when the engine is cold, or use something else to spray. It just has to be a thick mist. Most people use carb cleaner, because it goes away quickly, leaving no residue like WD40 or something similar.
Listen for a sudden, and distinct improvement in the rough idle. Once this happens, use the spray, along with visual, and also feel, to find the bad spot.
