There are multiple exhaust design for this car for that year – you may have 3 O2 sensors or 4 depending on the production year. My production year was 6/1998, but it did have 3 O2 sensors. For my car bank 1 sensor 2 is the O2 sensor right behind the cat. Follow the wire, and it will go into the frame to the interior of the car. Open the front door, and slide the driver seat all the way back and you will see the wire coming out from floor and the disconnect point. Disconnecting was easy, but taking out the sensor took couple of busted knuckles.

Why are you even buying an o2 sensor without diagnosing the issue?

First of all, did you check your fuses? Did you check the integrity of the heater circuit of the o2 sensor? Do you have a scan tool to show live data?

If you want to just throw parts at it, you need bank 1 sensor 2 o2 sensor.

Just because you have a code for that area of the vehicle doesn’t mean to say that sensor is bad….

O2 sensor locations are as follows. Bank 1 is the bank with #1 cylinder on it, look for the bank that is closest to the crank pulley, on a V engine one side of the engine is always closer to the front of the engine than the other because of crankshaft design. You can often find this in a service manual as well and sometimes cylinder numbers are cast into the intake manifold but not always. Sensor 2 is the sensor located after the ‘primary’ sensor and is either mounted in or behind the catalytic converter but it’s always AFTER the primary sensor.

Could it really be as simple as a fuse?

                  Quoted From Steebs:

Could it really be as simple as a fuse?

Heated o2 sensors are fused seeing as they use battery voltage to heat up.

Here is a video of a blown heater fuse case study on a 97 Jeep.

I agree that some diagnosis is in order, I was merely trying to help pinpoint the location so that you could do the testing but to be honest I see O2 heaters go out all the time and to be honest the most it will do is effect gas mileage as the sensor won’t get up to operating temp as quickly, it will still work however once it does.

It could be. I agree with my man dreamer that you should do some diagnosis that will cost you nothing before you throw a sensor at it which will cost something (prolly a good bit, heated o2 sensors aren’t cheap)
