So I went to drive my Golf this morning, and it started a little rough but with a bit of gas it evened it out. Got to the end of the street and when I took my foot off the peddle as I was coming to the intersection it just died. Started it up again no problem and as soon as a take my foot off the gas it will stay started for 2 seconds then die each time. Pull out the code reader and there are 2 codes. The classic P0102 Mass or Volume Air Flow Circuit Low Input and P0605 Powertrain Control Module Read only Memory Error…What is that? I cleaned the throttle body and MAF last month, so maybe the sensor is dead? I unplugged it while it was running and the rough idle doesn’t change either.

The links in College man’s post seem like they’re worth looking into. In addition to that I would also check for any air leaks between the MAF sensor and the engine. Any leaks here can cause performance problems and possibly set CEL’s. Additional information on solving performance problems can be found here.
