      Hey Everyone!
I have a 1996 Chevy Caprice with 27,000 miles on it (a weekend driver). Just recently it started overheating.

Where should I begin with this? I have tried bleeding it by leaving the cap off of the reservoir and it didn’t overheat for about an hour while idling. One line going to the heater core isn’t as hot as the other. A friend thinks there is an air pocket somewhere.

      Suggestions?

A video on bleeding the cooling system.

Also does it overheat when driving or when ideling?
As this could be a cooling fan issue.
Check to see if their is any blockage in front of the radiator that will block airflow.

          Welcome to the forums!

I would recommend posting this question in the correct area as this is the “How To…” forum, not for service and repair C8-)

Any evidence for a loss in coolant? Id do a quick pressure test…and test your cap first to start. Verify that the fans are working. Does the heater work?

I saw the videos and landed on this site from here. I already ordered the funnel he talked about since my friend suggested it a while back (which brought me to Eric’s videos)
It overheats to some degree when idling, at one point the coolant bubbled out of the top of the reservoir with the cap off after sitting normal for about 45 minutes at idle. I don’t see any blockages in front of the radiator and am 99% sure the fans are good (I’ll check again tomorrow).

Oops, didn’t realize there was another forum. I’ll probably make a duplicate of this.

Heater worked, and then didn’t. Then when I tried bleeding air out of it, the heat works again but fizzles out after a few minutes and blows cool again. One hose from the heater core isn’t as warm as the other one ( the one on the bottom is hot and hte top is cooler). My guess at this point is that I could potentially have a clogged heater core but it also overheats without the heat on. No coolant leaks at all except when it spurts out of the cap’s emergency release when the pressure is too great and overheats.

Yep, saw that too. The CLR looks interesting enough but I’m worried that the compressed air will break the solders or the heater core.
