my 1998 honda accord lx sedan v6 automatic overheats while sitting in traffic. When i put it in ‘NEUTRAL’ and press the gas pedal the temperature gauge goes back to normal operating temperature. When this happens the reservoir is fulled with coolant and radiator is empty, and my fans works fine. Water pump and radiator was replaced about 3 months ago. Advise anyone please!!!

No thermostat means it should take along time to heat up, if at all. So ya a restriction or tired water pump

hey guys so i drove the car to work yesterday (3.0 mile) i reversed park the car and as i got out i notice coolant on the floor then i opened the hood. coolant was leaking from the driver side of the engine, close to where you would put the transmission fluid. Any idea as to whats on that side of the engine containing coolant, please any idea??

Would be quite helpful if you take a picture of the area.

Is this an accurate picture of what your car looks like under the hood?

Looks like your upper rad hose runs along that side of the engine, which tells me that’s where your thermostat should be too. Just going by this photo, I’d look at the hose, hose clamps and thermostat housing.

Is there any coolant plumbing going into the throttle body?
                    Might poke around there also.

the leaking was near the thermostat housing yes, but im not sure if it was coming directly from it

I would check out the heater core hoses and see if they are leaking…. mostly they are on passanger side but they could run to the driver side with leakage… it caouse laso be like the back of the head gasket but with out better pictures I cant tell you

Alright guys i just keep falling down the disastrous pit of owning used old car. The other day i took it to a mechanic, he unhook the bottom radiator hose from T-Stat housing and all the coolant just went to waste. The he hook every thing back up and poor water into the radiator (engine was mad hot) so i went to start the car and the engine was just shaking out of place as if its getting ready to explode or jump out the car catalytic converter was just ringing like crazy. The guy told me its crack cylinder head and my repair cost would be around $1000.
I want you guys`s thoughts more than ever please, I`m not sure if i should repair or get another hoopty and junk it

Depending on how much you invested in and the condition the vehicle is in..
Might suggest you begin pricing a set of heads ( either re-manufactured or salvaged ) along with all required gaskets and hardware.
Also get pricing for the required machine shop work for the heads(if salvage heads are used)

Then determine if you have the skill, tools and time needed.

No unfortunately that is beyond me, have to get someone else to do it. Inside of the car is very good condition, just the driver side carpet need a little touch and the driver door has normal wear, the paint could use a little touch up but is not needed few scratches on bumpers ac works just need to change the switch car has 195875 miles on it
