2007 Suzuki Forenza. 110,000 miles. A while back the coolant res. busted and my car red lined overheated. I got that fixed and put new coolant in it. A few months pass by, I’m driving down the road, it runs hot again. So i replace the thermostat. Ran normal for a week. Today, it ran hot again. It will run normal for about 20 min, then go between 3/4 and red line for a moment, then back to normal. Heat works. Fan works. New coolant. New thermostat. Any suggestions?

Sounds like you’ve got a big ole gas bubble in the system.

I’d burp the thing, and give it another go. Eric’s got a fine video on that… I’ll edit this post to include the link unless CollegeMan beats me to it. 🙂

I’ve lost track of how many Forenza headgaskets I’ve seen fail. All too often, especially if it’s actually been overheated, the head is warped beyond spec as well. You would perform a block test next, which is easier than most cars because of the coolant tank naturally having a large air space in the top half.
