im going to overhaul the tempo for learning purposes this summer. i have some cool ideas for the car but i want to break the car down as much as posibe and install all new parts, its not the best car in the world to do this to but i figure its a ford so parts will be cheap. and it will be my spare car, so i wont need to drive it. anyways i want to eventually build a v8 and customise the car to hold it. i want to get a real frame for it . i think most of the late 80s style mustang parts would fit for the majority, any thoughts, i honestly dont care about this car i just want to have a cheapish project on the sidlines i will have access to a welder this summer.i know the car will need a much bigger suspension to hold the heavier engine and a driveshaft. so alot of the stock

        lol. Famous last words.

Seriously though, I thought the same thing when I took on a Fiat project and it got really expensive really fast. My recommendation is if you’re going to do a project like the one you’re considering, to save up and buy a reasonably good condition car that you LOVE. They’re out there, and sometimes it takes a lot of searching and a lot of time, but given enough persistence, you’ll find a car that you will WANT to spend time and money on. Don’t settle on a project just for the sake of doing a project or you’ll become bitter and annoyed about the whole process.

Get on YouTube and check out DIY Automotive School with My Friend Pete. He does hot rods and restorations for a living. There’s a great episode where a guy talks about a Karmen Ghia project he took on, and he shares a lot of insight about what it takes to see a restoration project through. Also, just be aware that unless you’re buying something like a Tucker or a Bugatti, you’re probably going to lose a lot of money if you ever try to re-sell it. That’s why it’s so important to start with a car you actually want.

Yep – it gets real expensive real fast – both in terms of price and time. And if you are done with ford tempo, it would be near impossible to get the money that you put into it. So my advise is get something more of value that way that when you have everything fixed up, you can sell it and get the most of the money back.

i really dont have any intentions of selling this vehicle ever. i paid 200 bucks for the car and was told i would never get it stickered again, that it was going to the bone yard when the inspection was due. guess what,i took half my check every week for about 7 months and all the extra time i had. it got a new sticker. im just really sick of junking cars if there able to be fixed. it has alot more sentimental value to me. ive had to junk alot of cars over the last decade. agrivating none the least. i wouldnt sell this car for anything its a car that i saved and ill be keeping it as long as i can. i kinda think the rarity of the car in the long run might make it worth something seeing that its no longer a produced vehicle and is a classic this year.i think it will be a great learning experience. i cant wait to get started. iknow its going to be rediculosly expensive but ill have the cash flow to get it done.

Go price parts for a small block Ford V8,twice the money than a small block Chevy and twice the money to build than a small Chevy.Plus there is no interchange with a Ford,Ford loves doing 3 to 6 month changes.I wonder why you see a small block Chevy in a Ford street rod, dirt cheap to build and can get parts for a small block Chevy easily.

i dont really like ford and i like things to be unique. im sure someones put a v8 ford engine in one before. and im a chevy fan. its just a project i have alot to rip out of it and alot of welding to do. its mainly for a learning experience and i wont care if i screw it up at all cus i got my moneys worth out of it. im gonna try to take out as much steel as possible and get a frame to fit it. i think the late 80s style mustang frame would workjust a little custom fitting

there are quite a few 5.8l(351W) on E-bay. if you can get a running one out of a F-150 its cheap and really reliable. the only bad part is the transmissions for those engines arn’t that great. which is why most people go wit the chevy 350. but if you can afford a performance trans for the 351 it would be a tank. but if you want a manual trans you would have to go with the 5.0(302) small block. makes just about the same power but lacks in torque.

Yeah, Use a 4×4 truck frame so you could have a 4wd car and you can put it in 2wd for doing burnouts or what ever.. 😛

im wondering if the wheel wells would line up or how much frame i can cut off of the f150 frame? id have to lower the car after. i want it to look like a tempo still. im pretty sure this will keep me busy for a couple years…first thing is to get another daily driver then a tempo parts car for the miscellaneous parts.

                              heres a new thought…
taking the body mounts off of a f150 and tempo and swapping bodys. lowering the trucks suspension. only problem i could see is the dash and linkage for the shifter not lining up any thoughts?
