Yesterday I did an oil change on my truck, but ended up just slightly overfilling it by a 1/8 – 1/4 inch above the “full mark” does it really matter? I really don’t want to crawl back under there to let a little oil out. Thanks.

      it’s a SB 350 by the way.

as far as i know if you over fill your oil it will simply leak out of the filler cap (shop put 5 quarts on my car when it only takes four) and the excess oil leaked out the filler cap, down the front of the engine and onto the exhaust manifold where it just burned away. i cleaned the spill when i changed the oil and it did help (but not completely take away) the burning oil smell i had for 3 years (takes 3yrs to put 3k miles on it).

I’ve seen an engine wrecked from overfill; broken rings, thrown rod, blown seals. But these people put oil in till it wouldn’t go in anymore. Just a tad is ok, you’re about 1/2 quart overfilled, shouldn’t be an issue. You CAN put a hose on a turkey baster down the dip stick tube, if you’re worried about it.
