So today I was getting gas and the auto shut off didn’t work so the pump spewed gasoline all down the side of my car, wheels. This is the first time this has happened to me with my 09 Civic so I was pissed.
I keep reading that damage to evap components could have happened. How likely is this? I’ve been looking at part diagrams to see how this is set up, it looks like the evap components run off of the top of the fuel filter and pump assembly mounted on the top of the fuel tank.
After the spill I drove about 15 highway miles to work. Parked it for the whole day then got out at 6PM, drove 15 miles highway back. When I started the car up to drive it back I noticed a slight gasoline smell in the cabin. I’m suspecting the fumes from the tank made its way into the evap system and for whatever reason the charcoal couldn’t hold it? So it ended up passing the valve that goes to the intake and coming out of the intake system somehow (which would put the fumes at the front of the car).
I’m worried about the long term effects of any damage and why I would suddenly smell gas toward the front of the car.
