I realize this is a large topic to approach …
Considering the amount of suggestion offered on any repair(s) posted.
Would it serve a purpose to categorize them by year, make.

      An example:
Some posts a repair question, lets say on a 2001 ford mustang.
And it has been solved prior in another post.
The person asking ( or those trying to assist) have no way of knowing unless they happen to be the person who helped the first time or happen to be a walking service manual for every car ever built.
I understand it would be a big task to tackle but it has been done on other forums and works very well when done correctly.

That’s what the search function is for. Trust me, it was no easy task for the developer to put together. It’s working awesome now. Has all the filters you’re asking about BTW. Try it.

I just wish it would get used more. I think people would get answers a lot faster.

I’d like to have the search results presented as threads, not as every post that used (or copied) the search term. I’ll usually read the whole thread anyway.
Is there an option to just show threads that contain the search term?

                Try searching ‘Title Only’.

I’ve done that. It searches the titles only. I don’t want to only search the titles. I would like to see/read each thread where my search term appears in at least one post. I do not want every post to show up in the search results, just the thread. That doesn’t seem to be possible at this time.

Onyx, the developer of the site, is a better person to answer this question if I’m honest. Perhaps he’ll weigh in.
