There should be an adjuster for the parking brake. It can be in several places from under the center console to under the chassi.
As for the brake pads, you get what you pay for. I have never used either so i can not comment.

Ended up going with Autozone because they had the piston compressor in stock. I couldn’t believe how easy this was (first time I had done brakes before)
After watchinf the ETCG video and a few others I got the confidence to do it.
Only two bolts, just to release the caliper and swing out of the way.
Cost me 12.99 for the pads, 8.99 for the piston compressor and 1.25 for the brake grease.
To celebrate I had a full turkey dinner, with stuffing, peas with cream of mushroom soup and wine, several helpings of each. And also my wife made two cobblers….
Tis a good day I say! I need more wine!

Bo[/url]th are $13. I think when I had her brakes done last year when the caliper got damaged they only fixed that side and the brake on the other side started to touch metal on my mom’s car.
I’ve got to do something really quick and have no money. I just need to know between option “A” and “B” which would you choose?
I may have to pick up a spreader also since I don’t have a C clamp.
This will be on a 1993 Accord with presumably Akebono calipers on the front.
Also noticed the parking brake is basically non functional.
February 11, 2012 at 11:00 am #451358You get what you pay for most of the time but not all the time. However, for the front brakes, I would buy a little better quality pads as it’s about 70% of the braking power. Do you have rear drum or disc? The drum shoes last a bit longer. My car pedal was a little low as well and it takes at least 8 clicks for the hand brake to stick. So I adjust it myself to about 4 clicks and the pedal feels good and no more nose dive. The rear shoes on my car is still original and I am going to replace them next week if it warrants that. I have OEM brake pads in the front put on by the previous owner and it’s been 57K miles and the pads are still about 40% or more left.
But with the cheap pads, get at least the life time warranty ones and if you are going to utilize the life time warranty, buy with Autozone. They never gave me issues even the pads are all worn down. My Corolla spark plugs wires are 6 years old and I exchange them every 2 years without any issue.
I hope the info helps you.
Bleed the brakes dude. I am serious, bleed the brakes. The Accord master cylinders don’t take insults as well as other imports. Lube the slide pins, and pads/caliper areas. Don’t go nuts on the grease. I lube my slide pins every 30K miles just to keep the brakes working well and the pad wear even.Good luck. DO NOT RUSH when working on brakes.

February 11, 2012 at 11:00 am #451360In the end the pads probably come out of the same factory, different box.
February 12, 2012 at 11:00 am #451362Removing myself from this thread.
February 12, 2012 at 11:00 am #451363I put the cheap pads and rotors from Advance Auto in my Toyota Sienna. No issues at all no vibrations when braking and great stopping power. You will be just fine.
If these cheap pads were that dangerous the lawyers in this country would have bankrupted these parts stores by now.

There used to be something here, but it’s been forgotten about.
February 12, 2012 at 11:00 am #451366Good job pcmdjason! I’m proud of you too. It was only recently that I came up with the nerve to service my own brakes thanks to ETCG. SO I know how you feel as I also felt very good about getting it done on my own. Especially after paying $1000 just to change pads on all 4 wheels at the dealership. After doing it on my own, I can’t believe that I paid so much for something that took me less than 2 hours to do. And the pads from Honda were $60 for a set.
BTW: I hope things turn around for you. And you don’t need to defend yourself for having turkey dinner.
February 12, 2012 at 11:00 am #451367Yeh, I apologize. I didn’t understand the situation. I read way to much into your post. Sorry again.

I’m with you – I can’t believe how much it costs to have a vehicle serviced these days. And it’s not just the dealerships, I had a friend go to one of those chain repair shops and they charged him about $600 to do just the rear brakes. Yikes.
February 12, 2012 at 11:00 am #451371Honestly, I jumped to an inexcusable conclusion, and I owe the guy a huge apology. I let my personal life’s frustration bleed into what I felt was bad job, when I should have instead been congratulating jason on a job well done. So, again, I’m sorry, and well done sir. I’m man enough to admit when I F up. And humble enough to apologize for it.
