Thanks to Eric the Car Guy, I have had a quite a bit of experience with the 90’s Honda Civics and Accords. Overall, I have been very pleasantly surprised by economy and durability of these vehicles.

Recently, I have been investigating the track record on some of the newer Honda vehicles and I am not as impressed. Since 99, especially with the Odyssey, transmission issues seem rather un-Honda like. I can’t get a feel for how some of the newer Hondas are holding up. I am thinking from 2005 or so on to 2013. Are they as durable and the older ones?

As it sits today, I am not so sure I would buy a Honda with an automatic transmission that is newer than 1998 and that is getting to be a pretty old vehicle.

What are fellow members thoughts on this subject?

The newer automatics are quite good, albeit 5 speed automatics for civic and accords(IIRC)
Here in australia all hondas are going Automatic Only except for the base trim level which has the manual option

Dont forget honda automatics are not really a proper automatic as they are like a manual transmission inside where as others have planetary gears
