Operating temperature

      I have a 99 nissan maxima when i drive around town my car heats up to normal operating temperature but when i drive on the highway it drops to cold on the temperature gauge.

        I would make sure you have the correct thermostat installed in the vehicle.

        It sounds like you may have an over cooling condition.

        Do you have a scan tool that cans how you actual coolant temperature? Does the heat work correctly?

          i do not have a scan tool that can do that.
          our winters are pretty cold up here.
          the heat only works when the car is at normal operating temperature or fairly close to that.

            Ok, i would try bleeding the cooling system first to make sure you dont have air in the system if you are having heat issues.

              I would start with checking the coolant level with the car cold. If full then I would replace the thermostat. it sounds like its stuck open.

                +1 on a possible thermostat issue but also make sure there isn’t any air in the cooling system.
