only runs bad when warm?

I am the proud owner of a 1991 ford tempo gl, auto transmission 81k miles

I have a problem… car starts and runs like a champ when cool, however as soon as it warms up it begins missing and sputtering(while holding speed) idles real low when at red lights, and some times surges on take off.I found that if it starts sputtering, if I mash the gas it will stop for a while.

I bought the car used for 600 from the son of an elder lady. car had been sitting for 6 months or so, I checked the fluids everthing was pristine, needed a jump to start and ran perfect! untill it warmed up.

      Heres what I have tried
      new – fuel filter
      air filter +intake (cold air)
      spark plugs oem at .35
      distrubuter cap and rotor
      many vacume line replacements
drained the fuel system and replaced fuel

just wondering what else there is before I start with the expensive stuff?

I would start with a power balance test.Clean your throttle body
and the IAC and the area it lives in to see if the idle comes back to normal.
        check fuel pressure.

To add to what college said, I have found that MAP/MAF whatever air density/pressure sensor you have can be the problem in a situation like this.

Possible EGR valve sticking open also.

I did some experimenting with the car, I cleaned the throttle body, and ran a can of sea foam though the vac system. a little diference. I did notice that the car only idles poorly when under load(in gear)
in nuetral or park runs , idles holds mid rpm, with no problem or sputter

when in gear reverse or drive 9when cold) it idels fine and runs exceptional. (when the car is warm ) it idels fine sometimes in gear and sometimes not. also when holding speed, seems worst at 40mph
                accelerates fine is not sluggish.

The only noticeable changes I saw from the cleaning were that the car doesnt lurch on takeoff now.

I disconnected the vac line to the egr valve and noted no change either

Did you check all the sensors? all the vacuum line hoses? Air intake hose? did you try pulling random fuses and relays while engine running to see if there is any improvement? did you test the thermostat check the temp guage make sure the engine is not running above normal Op Temp?

I know the car was a little above normal temperature, I didnt check any sensors but the throttle possition ans I got smooth resistance the whole way.
I did replace all the fuses to be sure( im also trying to find out why the fan wont come on)

I did check the vac system with a smoke test thats how I found what I did. B)

other than that I dont really have the equipment to check the other sensors .
I checked the throttle with a cheap voltometer until it fell on the driveway and gave up.

I will try to meet with a freind this weekend to check the fuel pressure, and we will try cleaning the injectors too…

he has the equipment I wish I had

And I did disable the egr valve,
I disconcted the vac line and closed with a pin and tape.
I attached a line and proceeded to suck it, engine ran worse. when I relesed it went back. so I left it disconected. car runs quite better, but very warm!

Ill have to see how the car is because it came very close to overheating in traffic today, it was so hot the transmission was acting up.
Im going to try running a toggle swicth to the fan and try to run it like that.

as far as i know the fan in my Daewoo has never been turning on of course im not gonna open to hood to check. From fixing my own car today if its overhearing check the cooling system if the Thermostat housing is plastic like mine was replace it with a metal one. Even if it seems ok. This will include a new thermostat as well. Check the Rad make sure its not plugged best way to tell is to remove loosen the return hose if it spews out then rad is fine.

I know the cooling system is intact be cause when the car is moving it stays cool, it just gets hot when its not moving.

you should hear the fan running for outside, Ive checked mine it hasnt run in a long time it has cobwebs

Even though its usually oppisite than what you have stated if the Thermostat housing is plastic i would replace it with a metal one as prevenitive maintenance. Also check you PCV Hoses and valves when replacing my thermostat housing today (split in half bellowed smoke and pissed antifreeze all over the street yesterday) i noticed a cracked hose which upon looking online i discovered it is the PCV Hose. and upon reading this hose can cause poor aceleration and rough idle. Just two other things you can check. The PCV Valve from what i understand it a cylinder shaped thing held on by two bolts and should have a wire on the top of it.

                                    – Just ran a harness for the fan to run ion a toggle switch, checked both fuse and relay, both good just no connection somewhere. Car stays nice and cool now B)
