Had my 98 Accord LX 4cy 2.3liter F23A-1 Engine rebuilt. After I got back the rebuilt block and cylinder torqued together from the rebuild shop I did oil housing assembly and timing belt then took back to rebuild shop and had them set the oil pressure. The rebuild shop said that oil was running very rapidly out of the VTEC solenoid into the cylinder head and they were concerned the solenoid was bad. Entire VTEC solenoid replaced brand new 2 years ago so I’m assuming no on a damage VTEC solenoid as they typically don’t go out in general.
Since the engine was on an engine stand when they were pressurizing the oil system I’m assuming having my electrical connector on the VTEC solenoid will rectify the rapid loss of oil through the VTEC into the head. However, before I assume and trash a brand new engine I would like some feedback regarding oil pressure through the VTEC solenoid. I understand that VTEC directs oil to the intake rocker side by demand (acceleration) and some weeping into the cylinder during idle and normal driving might be normal, I just don’t know how much.
