So on my 1994 Chevy Silverado 2500 the oil pressure gauge on the dash itself will bounce around and go up and down with the amount of throttle i give it. Cruising down the freeway at 60 it jumps up to about 70 or so and then as i slow down it drops to about 30 but when stopped at a stop light it sometimes likes to just bounce up and down not really resting anywhere. I had a feeling it was the oil pressure switch from watching one of ETCG’s videos but i just want to be sure. Any help would be greatly appreciated. banana:

common issue with these trucks. the entire C/K line had them. dont know if the silverado line does or not. someone once told me it was a flaw in the electronics of the guage cluster. im not so sure but ive never looked into it. if you change something and it fixes it, let us know so i can recomend to others that have these trucks how to repair it.
before replacing the oil sender.I would put a mechanical
gauge on it to confirm you don’t have an oil pressure problem.From the best of my knowledge the switch usually works or doesn’t. Normally it’ll be pegged out if there’s an issue with the switch (you’d know if you were running 150 oil pressure haha) I know gm has had long running problems with the clusters.
I’d recommend you check the actual oil pressure first to make sure there isn’t a problem there. If the pressure is good then it may be a problem in the cluster. There is a voltage regulator in the cluster that’s suppose to smooth out the ‘peaks and valleys’ in voltage inputs to keep the gauge from bouncing around. If that’s not working the gauge operation could be erratic.

In theory you’r correct but if there is an issue with the board in the cluster who knows what you get. Some clusters use a voltage regulator on each gauge. Not sure on the one in question however.
