Oil press light on VW Cabrio

Hoping someone might be able to help here,

Just changed the oil on my ’00 VW Cabrio this afternoon and started it up, now the oil pressure warning light stays on flashing. I checked my oil level and it seemed overfilled so I drained some oil out and the light still is on flashing when I start the car, I used Mobile high mileage oil and a Fram oil filter, wondering the filter is bad (I’ve heard bad things about Fram but never had a problem with any of my other cars using them). Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Does the car sound normal?
How does the outside of the oil pressure sensor look?
I would put a oil pressure gage on it to see if it’s with in spec, if it is then you might need a oil pressure sensor.

A+ on the above post. check the connection at the oil pressure switch.

well after changing the oil filter out for a Bosch filter and re-checking the oil level all if fine and no oil pressure light. Perhaps it was a problem with the Fram filter I originally bought not sure. Thanks for all the help.

Bosch is what I recommend for Euro cars.
I’ve heard bad stuff about fram filters.
Glad it’s good now.

I think you may have drained and filled with the ignition on.
I’m sure I’ve seen that before on Vw cars.

Im glad the phone call worked out for you and thanks for posting the fix here too! Just make sure your traffic light is changed to green so it updates our database.
