      2003 Nissan Frontier, 2.4L 120K miles.

It looks like the oil pan is starting to seep and needs to be resealed. The FSM calls for RTV, but there are also gaskets available. I would prefer to use a gasket with a thin layer of Permatex #2 to take up ane irregularities in the pan. I’m just worreid abut getting RTV on teh inside of the iol pan and contaminating teh oil or having a chunk block the oil pump screen.

Any opinions on which is better?

      thanks.

Looking at the service information Nissan calls for genuine anaerobic liquid gasket. It is not uncommon to see only RTV used as the gasket material. I would just follow the recommended installation procedures outlined by Nissan.

I’ve found it works really well to just smear RTV over both sides of the gasket, and clean off any excess, it leaves the gasket tacky and it seals really well without any excess sealant to squeeze out.
