Possibly there are blocked/restricted oil return ports in your head.

I would remove the valve cover and inspect for blockage…

          Two things come to mind:
Perhaps an air pocket, possibly from the oil filter holding the oil back. Un-likley but possible on some vehicles.

          Or:

Sludge, Like ToyotaKarl suggested you may have to pull the valve cover off and have a look around to see if any of the oil ports are plugged up. It’s not a clean job that’s for sure. And if it is sludged up you’re in for a couple hours minimum.

If it is sludge do you best to poke and push the ports clean. Then try and rinse them through by pouring oil down them. To do it correctly you should remove the oil pan so you don’t plug up the oil pump pick up when you start it next. I’ve seen guys rely on sludge oozing out the oil drain hole but I wouldn’t. Most vehicles its easy to remove the pan and saves the risk of starving the engine and killing it. I usually do the cleaning and then drop the pan so I can save the mess to show the car’s owner. Its also good practice after that to do what I call a “sacrificial oil change”. Meaning Fill it with new oil, put a new filter on it and then run it with some specific oil system cleaner in it. Then do another oil change. And then do your next oil change after half the normal interval.

Hopfully its some thing simple and quick!

That’s wild, I never heard of such a thing. I’d love to see a picture when the valve cover is off.

+1 on checking for blocked oil return passages.

I look forward to your pics.

Has this van been loaded up full and pulling a trailer through Arizona?

Texas and Arizona mechanics have dropped oil pans and seen a big dog-sized blob of black jello drop out. Hi temp created sludge. It can also just build up in the oil channels. If this is the problem at least you’ve caught it early most likely before it caused major oil starvation and engine damage.

I managed to fix it,will be uploading pictures within a few hours. Also i was wondering if anyone wanted me to do a video on starter replacement for a 2000 Kia Sportage. I couldn’t find a video so I had to wing it and I managed to get the old starter out after hours of playing tetris lol

I’m interested to see the pics. What was the fix?

As for a video, when you get it complete post it to the ‘How To’ section of this forum.

Not sure how it got there, but there was a glob of sludge the size of a golf ball on one of the oil ports.
