oil light comes on.

I have a 2001 ford Taurus, 3.0 When i floor the gas pedal then let it go in park, she will come down to 500 rpm or so and oil light comes on and she wants to stall, sometimes she does. I have had new fuel filter, cleaned throttle body, NO codes? It started after an oil change? My mechanic says he can not find anything? She runs fine and idles fine, except when you do that with the gas pedal. Any ideas? Thanks.

The oil light may be coming on due to the low
idle. The slower the engine rpm the slower the
oil pump.which will lower oil pressure.
causing oil light.Sounds like the IAC is not
        keeping up with the idle.

🙁 My mechanic said that the IAC was replaced? He is confused. I trust this guy. It only does it if you punch the gas pedal and when she comes down. Otherwise she idols at 600 or above. Thanks

That’s simple…Don’t rev it in park. Drive the car as intended. After all it’s not a new car by any means.

True. I have been concerned because it only started after an oil change. But levels are fine. It just one of those things. 😉

How many miles on the motor? Are you using the correct
oil weight and viscosity? could be worn engine/thrust bearings.
                oil pump/pickup up screen clogged.

I just noticed on my paper work that this time they put 30 weight last time 20 weight? Not sure about the pump and clog, My mechanic should have checked that? Oh and the car has 83,000. I bought it new. I have changed the oil every 3000 or later since i have had it. Thanks.

What oil filter has your mechanic used? I have seen pattern part filters restrict the oil flow before. This will cause similar issues. As it started straight after the oil change diagnosis needs to start at that point.

I would use what stamped on the oil cap. If its
                        5w-20 then use that.

Would that small difference matter? Thanks

The fact that the engine wants to stall tells me that the oil light is most likely coming on from the low RPM of the engine almost stalling.

Are there any codes? Does anything happen when you get to high RPM’s whilst driving? If I were to blindly guess, I might guess that either the cam or crank sensor is failing and cant keep up with the high RPM of the engine. But that is just a shot in the dark.

Car runs fine at high rpms, 🙂 No codes? Checked three times. I think you can read what they already have done? If not i will re post. Thanks

Did your mechanic put this on a vacuum gauge and inspect it at WOT and also look at the fuel pressure at the same time?

I would also put noid lights on the injectors harnesses and inspect the fuel pressure regulator. See what is happening when you rev it up and then what happens when it comes down….

I’m no mechanic by far when I say this but,If it was fine before and all that was done was a oil change and with the engine having 83k miles it makes me question is anything ticking in the top half ? I’ve worked in a few garages as a lube tech, body man, ect. And I do most of my own maintenance. One can’t simply assume the oil would cause a sudden drop in pressure without something else being behind it. I’m not saying the upper isn’t getting oil to cause the problem, but you have to ask “is it enough” ??? This is a tough one.
