Oil Light

I have a 97 Honda Accord with 309,000 miles on it, about a month ago my oil light came on and was blinking. It seemed to happen after driving the car approximately 45 miles when I was at idle and the car was idling rough. I did some research and replace the oil pressure sensor, and it worked I had no more oil light. A month later it came back on, again the same scenario, after about 45 miles came to stop, car idling rough, oil light starts blinking. Could it be my Idle Air Control Valve, if not what is it?

Have you tested your actual oil pressure? If the car starts running rough after 45 miles and the light starts blinking, I’d definitely make sure you have oil pressure at that point first, especially if after a new pressure sensor was installed.

You should really check your actual oil pressure when you have a flashing oil light.

It’s quite possible your engine is worn out and needs to be replaced.

Thank you, I will try that first.

300.000 miles is a lot for an engine. But, if the idle rpm drops sufficiently, any engine will show the oil light. So, it may be that fixing whatever the engine idle problem is will also make the oil light go away.
