oil leak

      ok im noticing some oil around the distributor of my 96 honda civic its automatic if that makes a difference i went to auto-zone and got a kit that comes with o-rings to try and fix this but before i dive on in to this is there anything anyone can tell alto look for what to do and what not to do so i can properly do this without messing thing up thank you all

        Mark the distributor location before you remove it. That way you won’t have to mess with the ignition timing after you’re done. Remove the cap and make sure there is no oil in the distributor. If there is, you’ll need to replace it. BTW you’re much better off with a used OE distributor than you are with a new aftermarket. Nothing but problems with aftermarket distributors for Hondas.

        As for the ‘O’ ring, the best ones are the OE. But since you’ve already bought the aftermarket it will do. Don’t put any RTV or anything on the ‘o’ ring, just a little oil is all you need.

        Lastly, the distributor can only go on one way. If it doesn’t go on when you install it, turn the shaft 180º and retry. There is a slot on the cam that it needs to fit in. When it’s lined up, it just goes right in.

                one thing i noticed was if you tilt it up it sounded like if it got a boost of power and if tilt it down it was out of time can someone explain this thanks

                  okay so the distributor is fine but i still have a leak i put cardboard under my car check the next day and it was a spot like 4” wide and about 7” long but it looks dry to any advice thanks

                    Pay close attention to the valve cover as that is a common source of leaks on that engine.
