I did 2 oil changes for a 2001 Altima since I noticed this problem, the oil looks almost like there was coffee spilled in it. The first time didn’t really think it was a big deal because some dirt and a leaf dropped in the pan (there was a big leaf stuck over the control arm, leaf and dirt dropped in pan by accident). But wanted to make sure it was the leaf drop that caused it, saved the leaf and dropped it in another pan of oil from another car that was changed and noticed the was still nice and black. Just looking to see what this issue could be? I don’t notice any color change on the dip stick or any change in color to the antifreeze, just in the pan is where I notice this. First pic is from the 1st oil change when I noticed this, and you can see parts of the leaf stem in there. The 2nd pic has more bubbles in it.

Could be some moisture in the oil or the oil could have been overfilled last time the oil change was done.Maby try an oil flush product and using the manifacture recommended oil and filter.

It may be coolant in the oil. I would suggest doing a block test.

That looks like moisture in the oil to me. I don’t think it’s coolant though. Do you drive short distances? If so this may cause a condensation buildup in the engine which can cause that condition.

Eric, yes I do drive a whole lot of short distances with this car, lots of stop and go driving, under 35mph. How big of and issue is this, is it something to worry about in the next year? Also I wanted to post this other issue as a separate topic but don’t know if its related to this oil problem.
My temperature gauge almost never comes up to the mid point of the gauge when the car warmed up and running for a while. The needle sits at the bottom of the pin where it lays on and bounces up & down a little bit to the beginning of the cold line which is only an 1/8 in. It does on somedays come to operating temp on gauge when the car is on park and warmed up but once it gets put into any gear R,N,D, the gauge needle goes right down beneath the cold line again and bounces around there, pop it back on Park and gauge needle comes up to the middle. The car gives off good heat in the car. Curious what this problem could be also, is it related to the weird oil color problem, could it a thermostat issue??

Most likely engine running cold is causing or at least contributing to water in oil problem. If engine is running cold. It also might be electrical problem. If temperature on gauge drops immediately as you put it in gear it is electrical problem. If it happens slowly when you’re driving it sound like thermostat.

If it’s not coming up to temp that can also contribute to the issue. On a cold engine there will be more condensation. You might consider replacing the thermostat for starters. Don’t forget to bleed the cooling system when you’re done.

After that, take it for a long drive once in a while and that will help eliminate the moisture from inside the engine.

Good luck and keep us posted.
