Should it be alarming that I found oil inside my intake air tube? (1993 accord lx)

If your seeing oil in the air tube then the engine is getting worn out and the blow
by will show. It is a normal sign. How many miles on the car?

What sort of thing would cause this?

It could be rings are getting worn. you could do a compression and leak down test.

Compression test went well – dry & wet. I therefore have not conducted a leakdown test.

Is your pcv operating correct? Are you burning oil? is the correct oil weight and viscosity being used?

It’s common to find that on most cars. Venting of the crankcase in necessary and that air will inevitably be carrying oil particles at the very least. It’s routed to get sucked back into the intake for emissions purposes and reducing maintenance. If you care to no longer deposit the oil in your intake system, you can make up an open breather with a catch can for that oil and moisture. You would then have to periodically empty and clean that system. It can take some trial and error to find a good place to run the vent tube to so that you don’t smell the fumes.

The only engines I see with clean intakes are on very new cars using current tolerances and piston ring technology.
