Well , you can go to youtube and search . There are dozens of videos of people cutting open both new and used oil filters .

Believe what you want . Dis-believe what you want .

We bought a new little Chevrolet car this last summer . I ordered 4 AC Delco filters from RockAuto.com . With freight , they came out to be about $ 5 – $ 6 each . Which was cheaper than any of the local places , when I searched on line .

The Delco filter may not be the ” best ” . But it is probably good enough . And good enough probably depends a great deal on how often you change the oil . I do not plan to push my luck too far on that .

        God bless

Some filters are better than others. Most name brands will do just fine. In the end, you mostly get what you pay for.

i have always used WIX filters, i have never heard of filters restricting flow causing pre mature engine wear, I think as long as it has a name backing it and good word from people using it that is what i use, and i hardly hear anyone complain about WIX filters that have any sort of common sense, so that is what i get…

To answer your question, yes. Some manufacturers use and anti-drainback valve that is neglected on the cheaper filters. This prevents oil from draining back from the engine when shut off so there’s less wear and tear on start up.

Also, the filter media on FRAM filters in particular is subpar nowdays.

Just avoid FRAM. The call it the Orange Can of Death for a reason. That being said, I used FRAM Oil filters for about 60k on my 4 banger Toyota Matrix and never had an issue. Probably because I change oil religiously. If you stretch your oil changes and fill your filter with crud from not changing the oil, you will have a problem. Pretty sure that applies to just about anything.

As long as you change your oil and filter on a regular basis, you shouldn’t have any issues. Every time I change my oil, I change the filter as well. Their are other people who change their filter every other oil change. It’s ok to change your oil filter every other change if you change olyour oil every 3000 miles. The thing I don’t like about filter change every other oil change is that some change intervals are 5000+ miles. If you do change your oil and filter at 5000+ mile intervals, I would recommend using semi or full synthetic oil. Synthetic oil may cost more but the longer oil change intervals will make up for the proce.
