Hello forum one of my oil cooler lines(the ones that go into the radiator) has started to leak and I’m looking for some help on the replacement of these lines. Is it a very tough job? I know its going to be a dirty one. Anyone done this before that can give me some tips? Thanks Its a 94 gmc 2wd. truck 350 5.7. These lines are above the oil filter.

Not a tough job at all. It may help on the radiator end of things to move the fan shroud out of the way, and this is about the easiest one to pull out too. Since you don’t care about the ones coming out, it they look real rusted on the fittings or your wrench starts slipping on it just cut the line off and slide on a deep well 6-pt socket on the fitting. Same goes for the engine side of it, though I imagine rust isn’t really going to be an issue for you there, especially with old leaky hoses. Since you’re already taking all that off, consider taking off that adapter from the engine and replacing the o-ring that seals it against the block. Its inexpensive and 18 years old now so I wouldn’t risk it. Be sure to tighten the new lines with a flare nut wrench to ensure you can get the right torque on them and not cause any damage to the fastener.

Those lines goto the transmission and are for the transmission cooler. The job isn’t that bad as mentioned above but it can be a little tricky getting the new lines routed into place. You can ‘bend’ them a little just don’t go too far. Good luck and keep us posted.

Eric, I think he’s talking about the engine oil cooler. Lot of Chev trucks had them. My 95 Suburban has the transmission cooler on the passenger side and an engine oil cooler on the drivers side of the radiator. The hoses come from a sandwich adapter mounted between the block and the oil filter. They do get bad over time.

Original poster, are the hoses you are talking about for the transmission or the engine?

Not sure why those things leak so often. But it’s not too bad at all. Just make sure you have flare nut wrench for it, cause from my experience they want to round out real easily. Good luck.

OK I get it now. Well then as stated above make sure you use a line wrench as you don’t want to round those things off as stated.
