Oil consumption with non Honda pcv

96 Honda civic 1.6 engine 182,000 miles. A few years ago I replaced the pvc with a non oem part. I have had an issue using oil at about a quart every 1000 miles.

I don’t recommend changing Honda PCV valves as part of a maintenance. They usually last a long time without need of replacement. I also recommend using a Honda valve instead of an aftermarket one. That said it’s probably not your problem. Those engines tend to burn oil even when maintained and given your mileage I’d say it’s normal. You could do a compression test or leak down test to confirm this. BTW many people HOPE for oil consumption to be caused by worn valve seals but the truth is the rings and cylinders wear out and normally cause the oil consumption.

3 weeks agoI changed the oil and put about 4 oz of marvel mystery oil in the crankcase and have been adding some to the tank when I get gas. Oil level has been on the full mark since.’
