Odometer not turning

The odometer stopped turning on my 94 cavalier z24. 3.1v6

What do i do?

on this car if it has the ( v s s) i would check the wiring were it plugs up. if it has a cable i would pull the end on the trans and spin it and let some one sit in the car and see if it works. if it does work pull the housing and check speed gear if not pull the cable and check it or the cluster and check it. maybe this will help. let us no

Yes it has a vss, was gonna pull the cluster n check that.

the cars this year had a few problems with that yellow wire that goes in to the plug on the gm cars with not making good contacted might check there on the plug up.

1. Check the speed reading on a scan tool. If there is no reading, disconnect the Yellow and Purple wire from the Vehicle Speed Sensor (VSS) and check the AC voltage from the sensor with the wheels off the ground and spinning.

2. If the sensor is producing AC voltage (expect around 5 volts AC at about 30 Miles Per Hour (MPH), check the wires from the speed sensor to the Powertrain Control Module (PCM). If OK, replace the PCM.

Yes the speedometer and rpm tack works fine, even used my gps to match speed and it was on point

Sounds like you have an instrument cluster problem as the speed sensor does sound as it’s operating the speedo fine

It’s a 94, that may not be possible.

I honestly don’t know the set up that vehicle has, but it sounds old enough to use a cable for the speedo. I would first pull the cable from the trans, hook a drill up to it and run the drill. It should make the speedo work. If it doesn’t, then you may have a problem in the cluster or a broken cable.

If you do have an issue inside the cluster, there’s likely nothing you can do about it. Only licensed speedometer facilities are allowed to do repairs on those.
