      Hello,

Recently, I’ve noticed that my 2007 Honda Civic makes an odd whining noise when accelerating. And it doesn’t seem to matter the season. It occurs in the summer, and winter. It is quite an annoyance. However, the whining noise appears to stop after running the car for about 20 minutes. Does anyone know what is causing this, and perhaps, provide a solution to fixing this problem?

      Much appreciated.

would you be able to post a video of the noise and
the location so we could all here it? that would be
        a big help to us.

I don’t have video, but I uploaded a video recording. It should help. I’ve attached it below. Hopefully, it’ll help in resolving the problem.

          Much appreciated.

That is an odd noise. Might be your timing belt making that noise. I would check that area.

I know for a fact that some civics of this generation were recalled for a bad belt tensioner. From what I hear that’s what’s causing the noise.

I’m pretty sure that Civic has a timing chain not belt. AT least my 2008 Civic does. But it does sound a little like a dry power steering pump.

Must have a timing chain because my aunt has over 200,000 miles on her 2006 LX manual transmission. I think it’s the serpentine tensioner.

Sounds like the power steering to me. Check the fluid level and condition, if it’s full of air bubbles perhaps you have a leak somewhere. Remember to only use Honda PS fluid.

Thanks for the answer. But I would like some more details on this. What can I do to fix the problem? How would I go upon repairing it, and would you happen to know how much it would cost me to get it all fixed up?

Did you try out any of the suggestions given to help troubleshoot your issue?

If you are unsure on how to repair something, you have 2 options. 1) Invest in a FSM or 2) take it to a qualified and certified repair facility.

+1 to dreamer2355. You should perform a diagnostic procedure before you assume what the problem is. If it is the power steering belt (depending on your level of experience) it should be a pretty easy fix.

Have you check the level of your power steering fluid?

There are no magic bullets here. You first need to determine if the power steering is the cause of the noise. This may be difficult if you have a serpentine belt instead of individual belts for each accessory on the engine. You might use a long screwdriver or mechanics stethoscope to help nail down where the noise is coming from. Once you’ve found that THEN we can talk repair strategy.
