I’ve been hearing some odd noise from the engine of my 2000 Honda Accord LX V4. The noise at times can be random but it is consistent. The noise will only go away right after an oil change or when a sealer is added. Now the car is experience an oil leak and I’m doing my best to keep it under control.
I’ve posted a link to a video recording of the noise. (It was nighttime when I did it.)

FYI: I started recording near the hood from the driver’s side to the passenger side, back to driver, below the bumper (that’s when the cooling fan turned on), to the passenger side, back to the driver side and up over to the hood to the driver door.

Your video won’t play. When I click on it, it says it is private.

Sounds like valve chatter. How many miles are on it? Do you get the oil changed every 3000 miles?

              Miles: 205000+
Oil change frequency is 3000-5000 miles. Plus I just changed the oil last Thursday.

Valves probably need to be adjusted and/or you need new lifters and you may need a new timing belt. You could start by taking your car to a local parts store and get them to pull your codes. Most parts stores will do it for free. I don’t really trust those sealers by the way.

Does it seem to be louder near the valve cover or oil pan? It’s kinda loud already, so to me it sounds like from the valve cover, but it could also be something unrelated to the engine. I doubt it though haha. It does sound like you need a valve adjustment. Here’s a vid of eric doing the adjustment if it ends up being that.

Here is a better video of the engine.

It sounds like it gets louder around the exhaust mani, but it’s hard to tell. Your best bet would be to get an automotive stethoscope, like eric has in the vid i’m going to post. You can also use the screwdriver method he talks about.

I’ll try that as soon I find/buy a long screwdriver.

Sounds semi regular. Is a half broken timing belt slapping around?

To me it sounds like your timing belt tension might be too loose. I’d recommend removing the valve cover and upper timing cover to check it and correct it if it’s too loose.
