Can anyone recommend a code scanner that will work with 1996 – 2016 Japanese and European vehicles?

I would like something that can read ABS and airbag codes too as well as manufacturer specific codes (P1xxx) codes.
I normally work on European and Japanese cars (Renault, Peugeot, Toyota, Mazda, Honda, Ford -Euro models).

I don’t need any fancy features, just retrieve/clear codes and maybe view some data but the most important thing is to be able to get manufacturer specific, ABS, SRS codes on a wide variety of Japanese and Euro vehicles sold in the Europe market.

Stay away from the Bosch scan tools including OTC.Bosch does not stand behind their equipment at all and finding a rep is hard.Bosch reps get fired or they quit due to how Bosch treats their employees.OTC is owned by Bosch now.

You could try looking into an Autel unit or one of the Launch units. If you want to get into manufacturer specific codes across different models, you really have to start looking at more of a tech level tool. At least in North america, Launch makes a scan tool that can do ABS, SRS, transmission and generic OBD2 that retails for about $300 CAD. Anything I’ve ever seen that will get into manufacturer specific functions on several models starts at 5 times that.

Do you have a smart phone?

My favorite thing for when I don’t need a bidirection tool is my phone and a OBD2 Wifi adapter. Cheap and both Dashcommand and Torque Pro will read those codes and some manufactuer specific stuff too.

If you have an iphone you want Dash command and a ELM 327 WIFI adapter

If you have android you want Torque Pro and a Bluetooth adapter

If you want to step up to the big time them get Autoenginuty. Its a scan tool that runs on a windows laptop. It is a full functional bi directional scan tool that will read just about all vehicle specific codes. I believe the base cost is $300 and each manufacturer you add is another $200 or so. If you want the ulitimate scan tool I think this is the one. The only thing thats better is the SnapOn Verus or the Dealer scan tool.

EDIT- The more I think about it, the more I think this is the best solution. Its going to cost more up front to get all the add ons but it will do everything you need and more. The euro package is the most expensive but it will do all that your asking
