I have a 94 chevy truck 350 5.7 I saw Erics video and was wondering about the codes in a obd1. I have no check engine light on and truck is running fine. But could there be codes that im not getting?.I heard obd1 is kinda funny like that sometimes. Thanks

there will be a connector you can jump the a and b terminals
and turn the key on with engine off.Eric just did a video on pulling
codes for obd1 everything will apply except for the blue connector.

Here this website will help you!

You can build something like Eric did but I just used a paper clip when I have to pull OBD codes. Just unfold it then use the two ends . One goes in the A slot and one in the B slot. Eric has done the same thing using a wire he just added the connector.

Thanks for your reply and website. But if there is no check engine light there still could be codes waiting true or false?

Yes, I believe that the computer stores codes for 50 key cycles. When I did mine mine only came on when I was on the highway.
So just do paper clip trick and then you will be able to pull your codes that you have had in the last 50 key cycles.

Ok thanks alot will do. I plan on buying a code reader they are handy to have.I never new it was so easy to get codes until I saw the Video Eric made. Thanks Eric! Plus I would rather do it myself than have the parts guy do it.

Normally if there’s a code it will turn the light on even if it’s OBDI however OBDI doesn’t have strict guidelines like OBDII does so you may have say a lazy O2 sensor but it won’t set a code, what you might notice however is a drop in fuel economy. This is a site you might also find helpful.

Put the jumper wire in and all I got was a code 12 3 times so no worries. I tried a paper clip 1st but didnt work so I got the wire and bingo. Thanks again forum.

My bad Eric no codes came up all good. It is pretty cool that a wire does all that. Wish I would have learned that a long time ago. Thanks again.SD

Learning stuff is what auto repair is all about. Personally I still have much to learn but that’s kinda what I like about this field.

Keep us posted of things change and thanks for using the ETCG forum.
